My Best Wallpaper for Kids Bedrooms

As a child, I loved any opportunity to make my bedroom more personal to my identity. I think my parents enjoyed helping make the space into a place for creative play and whimsy. Adding vibrant and playful patterns to your kid’s bedroom can build a more magical environment and wallpaper is a perfect place to start. Over the years, I’ve designed a lot of patterns that are available as wallpaper in my Spoonflower shop. To make it easier to find them, I curated my designs into a collection of the ones I think would really make a fun and unique bedroom for kids. In the rest of this article, I’ll share some of my favourites and ideas for how to make the most of them as well as where you can find the collection.

One of my favourite designs is this mushroom floral wallpaper and it’s one of my earlier prints so it holds additional nostalgia for me. I’m often quite story-driven in how I develop pattern ideas. In this case, I loved the idea of drawing a mushroom patch that could easily make for an adorable fairy hideaway but without any of the fairies present since they are clearly hiding (as is common for most gardens).

Another option close to my heart is this butterfly wallpaper that uses a nice clean and light background but with pops of pink, orange and violet for a meadow-inspired design. This pattern is part of a large collection of different styles and colours in my Spoonflower shop so you could really create a magical butterfly theme for the interior of your children’s bedroom.

While there’s many more options listed in my collection below, the last print I would like to highlight is this space themed wallpaper in a vibrant rainbow palette. This is a fairly new addition to my work and there’s already a set of coordinates including in the starry patterns. If you’re looking for something bold for your kid’s room and you know they already love all things galaxy and planets, then this could help create such an imaginative decor.

When I started teaching myself to design, I found myself drawn to very energetic and happy colours. Often, my illustrations were naive and whimsical and many people observed that my artwork seemed perfect for children. This might have happened by accident but I suspect it also came from so much creativity being encouraged in my childhood. I’ve continued designing in my familiar palette of cheerful colours, which means that while I sometimes design a collection of prints to be used together, many of my patterns will naturally co-ordinate in tone and mood. There’s so many things you can do with mix and matching prints for a children’s bedroom. Aside from wallpaper, you can create curtains, a beautiful quilt or even soft toys that appear to perfectly complement the vibe of your kid’s play space. I’ve found some great ideas on Pinterest and Instagram to inspire me and I’d love to see your ideas and projects too.
